Many best-sellers and so teach to live in present. Living in present is important but ignoring past and future is foolish.
Its true that you cannot do anything about your past. You cannot reverse it the way you want just like you cannot get milk from the split one. But, you can learn from your past so that you don't repeat those mistakes and make present and future same as your past.
Similarly, worrying about future is futile as it has still not come. But, planning in present can help in making your future bright and under some control.
At the same time, it is very much essential that you don't spend all the present time in learning from past and planning for future. A balance of all is required.
